Making it up as We Go Along: Part One -The Makeup Kit

Whether you work all day and go straight on to party, do your makeup on the train, have many an unexpected sleepover or whatever it may be every girl needs some sort of first aid kit to prepare her for the unprepared. So today I have compiled my SOS handbag survival guide to give all you busy people some ideas on how to stay classy without breaking your back

The Makeup

Mascara- You know when they say look alive? Well, here is how. Step One: Slick On. Step Two: Slick Again. Step Three: One More Time For Good Measure. It’s important to pick a mascara that you know won’t clump, smudge or give you spider lashes because there is really no time or place for makeup remover wipes and what not where we are going. Thanks to Anna from Vivianna Does Makeup I am currently hooked on Loreal Telescopic Waterproof. Foundation- So you are exhausted/hungover/trying to impress a certain someone over evening drinkypoos. Your travel kit should contain a foundation that gives you confidence and pep. I like something high coverage which will look glowy and as if I don’t have any makeup on at all. For this I turn to you Nars Sheerglow, you always seem to pull through for me 🙂 Concealer- The concealer you carry with you should cover you for under the eyes, on any redness or pimples. Something with high coverage, easy blendability  and neutral undertones is essential. Illuminating Powder- I personally hate the look of powder and despise the idea of ‘touching up’ your powder throughout the day. I also quite like the way my makeup looks when it’s settled into my skin and warmed up with my natural oils. However, that being said as an oily gal and someone who often suffers from lack lustre skin an illuminating version of the traditional cakey facepowders has been a godsend. I am absolutely obsessed with the Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powders at the moment and will do a full review of them very soon. This powder should give you that healthy glow whilst setting all your swiftly applied makeup in place and making you appear much more magnificent than you feel. Cheeks and Eyes- I am so grateful to NARS for making their The Happening palette, as it contains four versatile eye shades, a bronzer and a blusher. It is also super thin and contains a massive mirror. What more could I ask for? However, it was limited edition but so many brands make palettes that will cover you for cheeks and eyes which means you have everything you could need in one place. Wild About Beauty does a lovely creme palette, Too Faced, Laura Mercier and so many others have travel friendly palettes that will have you covered. Lips-For lips I suggest something buildable, hydrating and that can also be popped on cheeks for that added bit of versatility from your kit. I personally waver between the MAC Lip Conditioners or the Revlon Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stains.

So, that’s it 6 products to get you and your face through a multitude of situations. Thanks for reading and stay tuned for the second installment, the first aid kit. Dani xx
